March 16, 2025, Sun Valley Community Cleanup

On July 31, 2025, the Rally for Sun Valley! brought together committed community members to protest Los Angeles City Council District 6 Councilmember Imelda Padilla’s recent approval of another tiny home village project, this time adjacent to the Metrolink Sun Valley station. Residents voiced deep frustration and anger that such a decision was made without any meaningful public input, outreach, or regard for local opposition. Despite repeated requests for transparency, the council member’s office moved forward behind closed doors, further alienating a community that has long felt neglected.

Sun Valley is already straining under the weight of devastating conditions: our streets are riddled with potholes, infrastructure is crumbling, and there are virtually no family-owned businesses, department stores, or large grocery outlets to serve local families. Residents endure stifling heat aggravated by climate change, with minimal shade or green spaces to provide relief. Escalating homelessness, RV encampments, and rampant illegal dumping have become daily realities, yet the city fails to address these challenges or dedicate budget for basic neighborhood improvements.

Instead, another costly project, estimated at $9,387,727 plus ongoing exorbitant expenses, is being imposed just two miles from a previous village on Brandford, overwhelming an already disadvantaged and under-resourced area. Meanwhile, much-needed investments in public safety, beautification, road pavement, and park development are ignored.

The Rally for Sun Valley was a powerful demonstration of unity and civic engagement. Residents stood together to demand an end to ill-planned projects that only exacerbate local distress. They called for transparency, inclusion, and a real investment in the well-being of residents, families, and children.

We thank everyone who participated in the rally, making clear that Sun Valley deserves a future shaped by its community, a future with essential services, livable streets, environmental justice, and true opportunity for all.
